Getting married in Thailand has a lot of benefits. it is cheap, easy, straightforward, legal, and recognized throughout the world. There’s a lot of beach resorts, picturesque locations, rich cultural heritage, variety of beautiful scenery which makes it a perfect wedding location in case you want to perform a formal or religious ceremony.
Especially if each of couple is from a different country, a legal administrative marriage can be performed easily, provided that it is according to Thai law and should follow the procedures set by appropriate Thai authorities. This makes Thailand a convenient location to marry.
Who Can Marry?
Eligibility of a person who can marry can be summarized into the following:
- – Each party is more than 17 years of age
- – Each party is sane
- – Couple cannot be in blood relations in the direct ascendant or descendant line
- – Couple should not have the same adoptive parents
- – Each party should not have a spouse at the time of marriage (In the case that husband died/marriage was terminated, marriage can only ensue 310 days from the date of death or termination of marriage)
(An exception to this, marriage may take place before 310 days in the event that:
- 1. Child has been born during such period
- 2. Divorce couple remarries
- 3. Woman is not pregnant signed by a qualified physician
- 4. There is an order of the court allowing the woman to marry.)
Foreign nationals wishing to marry in Thailand can be categorized into two types:
- 1. Marrying a Thai national;
- 2. A foreigner couple.
